Before an imported car can be registered, it must meet Swiss technical requirements. The Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) sets the rules; the cantons carry out the inspection.
The EU Certificate of Conformity (CoC)
Cars with an EU type approval and a valid CoC (paper or electronic) can usually be registered without a separate Swiss approval. Without a CoC, extra proof or an individual approval may be needed, which costs time and money.
The cantonal inspection (MFK)
The road traffic office inspects the car before registration. Fees differ by canton: - Geneva: CHF 160.00 for a light vehicle with an EU CoC. - Zürich: CHF 30.00 per inspection unit; the number of units is set by the office. - Ticino: the official inspection fee is not published.
How Import Pilot uses this
Where the official fee cannot be predicted, the calculator shows a fixed Import Pilot service package price instead – clearly marked as a service price, not an official fee.
